I can't disagree. One of my problems with the series is the way it handles romance. It falls into the YA trap of hooking its characters up just because. Not because the characters have a history or chemistry or anything else that would make for a well written romance; just because. Even Mare and Cal, the main pairing, fell victim to this. That's not just me saying that, that's Aveyard herself too. (I distinctly remember seeing an interview on Goodreads where she admitted that Marecal was instalovey, but I'm having a heck of a time trying to find it.)
I think Aveyard should've just let Kilorn be single. Let him move on from Mare and be happy. Maybe imply that he has a thing for someone, but leave it at that. 'Course, hindsight is 20/20. As it is, I don't hate it, but I do find it tacked on and pointless. ^^"
