Larentia first appears when Maven Calore presents her and her family to Princess Iris Cygnet of the Lakelands. She makes an impression on Mare Barrow and subsequently notices her staring. She immediately insults Mare, calling her "a Red rat." A few months later, Larentia attends the wedding of Maven and Iris.
After the Wedding Battle, Larentia and her family escape on the Capital River. They regroup with the other members of House Samos and they declare themselves to be independent from Norta, calling their territory the Kingdom of the Rift. Houses Iral, Haven, and Laris come into alliance with House Samos, until Anabel Lerolan announces that she would rather support her grandson, Prince Cal.
Larentia is present at Corvium, when the forces of the Scarlet Guard battle against Maven and his forces. After the battle, she verbally spars with Farley, which Evangeline attempts to stop by displaying her superiority over the Reds. Larentia notes that the display is poorly done.
Larentia is a formidable woman who commands great respect from both Ptolemus and Evangeline. She does not like to be questioned and is a serious person.
According to Mare, Larentia is a severely beautiful woman who bears resemblance to her daughter, Evangeline. They share the same black eyes and porcelain skin. In contrast to Evangeline's silver hair, Larentia has straight, raven-black hair. She also has a dainty figure which makes her seem vulnerable. Larentia is of East Asian descent and has East Asian features.
Larentia is an animos, meaning she can control the actions of animals. Due to this ability, she constantly surrounds herself with animals, wearing snakes around her neck and shoulders as if they were jewelry. She also frequently brings large predators such as panthers to important meetings. These animals serve two purposes: first, to act as an intimidating display of power; and secondly as protection. During Maven and Iris's wedding, Larentia wears a skirt dappled with emerald-green butterflies. She seems to particularly like panthers and the animals react to her feelings and emotions. Her animals will show her emotions while her face remains blank.
Larentia is very harsh and strict with her children. She repeatedly makes snide comments about Evangeline's sexuality. Evangeline is viewed as a mere bargaining chip as a potential bride and Ptolemus is viewed more as the future ruler of the Kingdom of the Rift more than as a son. This is typical in Silver Elite families. Ptolemus has a better relationship with his mother because as the only son, he is the favorite. The fact that he is straight while Evangeline is not might also have something to do with this. Both children, but especially Evangeline, maintain a wariness towards their parents, especially Volo, at all times. Larentia is always watching her children, using the animals under her control as spies. Ptolemus admits to Evangeline that he is scared to sleep with Wren at their house because he knows Larentia is always watching. Evangeline and Ptolemus eventually rebel against Larentia and Volo in order to secure their own happiness. Larentia disowns her children after they insist that they will support the Nortan States and not claim their throne as rulers of the Rift.
- The only time Larentia is seen without an animal is when she meets with Evangeline for the last time.
